3.      Action Poem:  Leaves on the Ground
When the leaves are on the ground, [Point to ground.]
Instead of on the trees [Hold hands over head.]
I like to make a pile of them
Way up to my knees [Clasp knees.]
I like to run and jump in them [Jump once.]
And kick them all around [Kick with foot.]
I like the prickly feel of them
And the crickly, crackly sound. [Snap fingers.]

Leaves are Twirling Sing to "Frere Jacques"
Leaves are twirling
Leaves are twirling
all around
all around
They are falling softly
Very, Very softly
to the ground.

4.      Read second story "The Busy Little Squirrel" or "Mouse's First Fall"

5.      Fingerplay:  Five Red Leaves
Five red leaves, five and no more,                                                           hold up 5 fingers
The caterpillar ate one, now there are four.                                           thumb down
Four red leaves, that's easy to see.
Along came a rainstorm, now there are three.                                      index down
Three red leaves, nothing much to do,
A big wind blew, now two!                                                                       middle down
Two red leaves, that's not much fun,
I glued one on my paper                                                                          ring down
Now there is one.                                                                                      hold up pinky
Hang on, pretty red leaf! Your branches won't break,
You're one less leaf for me to rake!
6.      Craft: Autumn Tree
Materials: blue and brown construction paper, red, yellow, orange scrap paper, glue, pencils, scissors.
Trace your arm and hand for the tree trunk on brown construction paper and cut out. Glue to blue paper. Tear, red, and yellow paper into square and glue on and around tree for the leaves.

A is for Apple

  • Storytime – Welcome Song:
Welcome, welcome everyone,
Now you're here lets have some fun.
First we'll clap our hands just so,
Then we'll bend and touch our toes.
Welcome, welcome everyone,
Now you're here lets have some fun.

Storytime is starting, starting, starting.
Storytime is starting, come and listen to me.
  • Rhyme: “Five Little Monkeys”
Five little monkeys swinging in a tree
Teasing Mr. Alligator,
Can’t catch me, you can’t catch me.
Along comes Mr. Alligator quiet as can be and
snapped that monkey right out of the tree.
(Continue with “Four little monkeys…”)

  • Song: “Apples and Bananas”
I like to eat, I like to eat
I like to eat, eat apples and bananas…
Repeat, substituting a, e, i, o, and u sounds for the vowels all through the song.

  • Song: “The Ants Go Marching”
The ants go marching one by one
Hurrah! Hurrah!
The ants go marching one by one
Hurrah! Hurrah!
The ants go marching one by one
The little one stops to have some fun.
And they all go marching
Down to the ground to get out of the rain
Bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum
(Continue to four, using “The little one stops to say ‘no more!’”)

  • Craft: Apple Tree
Materials: paper plates, scissors, markers, red dots.
Cut out tree shape using scissors. Colour top half green for the tree top and the trunk brown. Add red sticky dots or stamp red finger prints for the apples
